How To Clear Up A Clog In Your Washer

3 Minutes Posted on:

Your washing machine is an appliance that provides a nice convenience for you. It enables you to wash your clothing in your home, rather than taking all of your clothes and hauling it to the laundromat every couple of days. Not only is it a pain to have to haul the laundry to the laundromat, but you also have to sit there while your clothing is being washed and dried. This can take hours of your time, time that you could be spending doing many other things. If your washing machine is not working because of a clog, it can set you up for a day or two like this one — at the laundromat. If you have a clog, there may be a few things you can do yourself to clear it out. Read on for helpful information.

Remove The Lint Filter

The lint filter in your washing machine may be clogged, which can be causing the issues you are having. You need to locate the lint filter on your machine and then clear it out. The lint filter may be under your machine, in it's own opening, or at the base of the machine in the panel. Once you find the lint filter, remove it and inspect what is inside to remove the lint buildup, or other items that may be blocking the lint filter and drain on your machine. Clear the items, then clean the filter, which may need some rinsing and cleaning with a soft-bristle brush.

Clear The Washer Drain Hose

There could be a clog in the drain hose that runs from the back of the machine to the drain. Remove the drain hose where it is attached to your washing machine. Inspect the hose to see if there is any water inside. If there is water in the drain hose, there may be a clog somewhere in the hose. You need to empty the water from the hose, then remove the other end of the hose to see if you can find the clog. If it's filled with lint or other debris, you may be able to spray the clog out, or you may have to replace the hose altogether.

If you have a clog in your washing machine, it could leave you without the use of your machine. Without the use of your machine is going to lead you to a laundomat and sitting for hours while your laundry is getting cleaned. Hire a professional repairman to repair your machine for you.
